MTM Australia - About Us
A SHARED VISION
MTM Australia was established in 2003 out of a shared vision to reach out and assist men and their families.
Men are feeling increasingly disconnected these days.., disconnected from themselves, from their families and friends...from everything that is dear to them in life. Disintegration of the traditional family unit is leading to more marriage breakdowns, skyrocketing suicide rates in men, rising drug & alcohol addiction, workaholism and drivenness, which all point to one thing; our men are in crisis. They feel lost, alone, confused, and unable to cope with the demands of life.
MTM is all about people and their journey. This guides everything we do: relationships are always at the centre. There's a gentleness and depth of spirituality, grounded in a healthy masculinity, that pervades every conversation and activity.
MTM is acutely self-aware, recognising the wisdom journey is as much about other's contributions as our own.
MTM is a safe place for men to discover their true selves. A ministry that helps men recognise their brokenness and gently rebuilds identity through a journey of wisdom.
MTM refuses to buy into the smoke and mirrors of 'success' that current culture dictates. Rather truth, wisdom and freedom are pursued. Men are inspired, their drive and passion harnessed for good rather than being tamed and patronised. lt's all in a bid to see more Australian men and their families, business and communities, transformed.
VISION
We reclaim the spiritual initiation of men through experiential journeying into the True Self, creating a tradition for future generations.
MISSION
We commit to:
- Directing men in lifelong spiritual learning.
- Training men to be Elders.
- Maintaining ongoing relationships with program participants.
- Providing Men’s Rites of Passage.
- Developing additional rites as needed.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe:
- Every man is a Beloved Son of God.
- Men are capable of serious spiritual journeys.
- Our message is grounded in the Christian Paschal Mystery.
- Men must seek to improve their conscious contact with God through prayer and meditation.
- Men must have the affirmation and guidance of wise mentors.
- Men have a need and responsibility to mentor future generations.
- In a universal message of love and faith that transcends the boundaries of race, nation, culture, gender, economics/class, politics and religious differences.
- In their relationships with women, Men must seek honest mutuality in thought, word and deed.
- Men must recognize and critique their own power with regard to women, minorities and the poor, and use their power for justice in the world.
- There is a need for collaborating with like-minded groups and other faith traditions.
